Are Mormonism and Christianity the Same?

Joseph Smith founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1820. It came about when two celestial individuals came to Smith. They told him all the churches were not the true church. Their creeds were nothing shy of abomination. All their ministers were, yep, false teachers. Joseph had been chosen to restore the true and original church, a church that had disappeared.

The doctrine that Smith conjured up is in direct contradiction to the Bible and twist the nature of Scripture and salvation. First, Mormons believe that “God Himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!”(History of the Church). Mormons also believe “as man is, God one was; as God is, man may become”, as stated by former LDS President Lorenzo Snow. As we know from Scripture these claims are false. God is the “I Am” (Exodus 3:14). According to 1 Timothy 1:17 “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God…” And let us not forget that God is spirit (John 4:24).

Another key compromise is the nature of Christ. In true Christianity, Christ is the creator of all things (Colossians 1:15-20). He is the only son of God (John 3:16). According to Mormon’s Jesus is the spirit brother of Satan. God conceived his children by having sex with heavenly Mother. Christ fathered Jesus by having sex with Mary. Do you see a stark difference?

The Bible is infallible and God-breathed and for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). Mormon’s reject this claim.  According to LDS The Book of Mormon is the “most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion.” Since The Book of Mormon, they have added more revelations in The Pearl of Great Price and Doctrine and Covenants. In these writings is the doctrine for polygamy. Amazingly enough, once the federal government threatened the LDS church about their polygamy, LDS President Wilford Woodruff received a change of mind from God. Polygamy was now to be enjoyed in the afterlife.  It sets a new precedent when God takes orders from the federal government. You might find it shocking to find that these extra revelations forbid African-Americans from being priests and to even achieving godhood (The Pearl of Great Price).

And ultimately Mormon’s are universalists. Almost everyone will make it to heaven. The worst of the worst, will go to Telestial heaven. The religious, the on the fence Mormons, and those who buy the Mormon gospel in the spirit realm will make it to Terrestrial heaven. And the temple Mormon’s make it to the Celestial heaven. And if you are sealed in the undisclosed temple ceremonies, you will make it to level three of the Celestial kingdom. There they will become gods of their own planet.

True Christianity contains none of this. See the words of John “Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:11-15).

You see, there are stark differences between Mormonism and Christianity. There are many more.

Can you call Mormonism Christianity?
